Privacy Policy
You can play without an account. Online features process game scores and temporary session information. If you submit a qualifying score, your chosen three-letter initials and game statistics can appear on the public leaderboard. Privacy questions and deletion requests: [email protected].
Who this policy covers
This policy explains how the Retro Kicker team (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use Retro Kicker and its online services. Contact us at [email protected].
Information we process
- Leaderboard submissions. When you choose to submit a qualifying score, we receive your chosen three-letter initials, score, successful-kick count, perfect-kick count, and longest successful kick. The server records the submission time and a database record identifier. Initials do not need to be your real initials. A score is also sent automatically at the end of a run to check its ranking, even if you do not submit a leaderboard entry.
- Multiplayer rooms. Creating or joining a room sends your chosen initials and color. The server holds the room code, random connection tokens, player connection times, kick inputs, round conditions, and match statistics to synchronize play and calculate results. Other players in the room see your initials, color, kicks, and match results. These results are not submitted to the public leaderboard. Your device temporarily stores room credentials for reconnection.
- Online player count. While the connected game is visible, it sends a randomly generated session identifier and an active signal approximately every 25 seconds. The server records the last-seen time to count active sessions. This identifier is generated for the game session; it is not an advertising identifier or an account login.
- Local game settings. Your personal best score and sound preference are stored on your device or in your browser. These local settings are not separately uploaded as a profile. A game score may still be sent for ranking or submitted to the leaderboard as described above.
- Network and operational information. Connecting to our services exposes technical information such as your IP address, request time, requested URL, and available client headers to the hosting infrastructure. Our hosting providers may process or retain request and error logs to deliver, secure, and troubleshoot the service.
- Support messages. If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you choose to include. Please do not send passwords or other unnecessary sensitive information.
The game does not require an account or ask for your precise location, contacts, photos, microphone, or camera. It does not include advertising SDKs or third-party behavioral analytics SDKs.
How we use information
We use this information to provide multiplayer matches, rankings and the leaderboard, display the number of online sessions, remember local preferences, maintain service reliability and security, respond to support requests, and comply with applicable legal obligations. We do not sell personal information or use game information for targeted advertising or cross-app advertising tracking.
Public information and service providers
The top leaderboard entries are publicly accessible to other players on the web and in the app. Public entries include submitted initials, game statistics, and submission timestamps available through the leaderboard service. Other people may view or copy public entries. We do not publish your email address or session identifier on the leaderboard.
We use Railway for hosting and associated database infrastructure. Hosting providers and email providers process information needed to operate the service and respond to you. We require service providers handling personal information on our behalf to protect it consistently with this policy and applicable law. See Railway’s privacy policy for information about Railway’s practices.
The web game also requests a font from Google Fonts, which exposes network information such as an IP address and browser request headers to Google. The iOS app bundles its font locally and does not need Google Fonts for that font. See Google Fonts privacy information.
We may disclose information when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect the security, rights, or safety of the service and its users. Providers may process information in countries other than your own.
Retention
- Leaderboard records: Accepted submissions are retained to operate the leaderboard and historical ranking. They have no automatic expiration. Falling out of the displayed Top 10 does not automatically delete a stored record.
- Session presence: Sessions stop counting as online after 75 seconds without a heartbeat. A cleanup task runs approximately once per minute to remove expired presence records when the service is operating normally. Removal may take longer during an outage.
- Multiplayer rooms: Room records expire after inactivity and expired records are removed when new rooms are created. Continued play and result-screen polling extend a room’s lifetime to support rematches. Match records are not kept as a permanent leaderboard. Temporary reconnection credentials are cleared when you leave the room.
- Local settings: These remain until local app or browser data is cleared. Deleting the iOS app, rather than offloading it, removes its local data; device backups may retain copies.
- Operational logs, support correspondence, and backups: Retention depends on the provider’s configuration and the operational, support, security, or legal need. Expiration from the online count is not a promise that all related logs or backup copies are immediately erased.
Your choices and deletion requests
You can skip leaderboard submission and use initials that do not identify you. Skipping submission does not disable automatic ranking requests or online-session counting. Playing the bundled iOS game without an internet connection prevents those online requests while offline.
To request access, correction, or deletion, or to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, email [email protected]. For a leaderboard request, include the initials, score, and approximate submission date so we can locate the entry. Because the game has no user accounts and initials are not unique, we may need additional information to identify your record and avoid deleting another player’s entry.
We will respond in accordance with applicable law. Some information may need to be retained for legal or security reasons, and backup copies may remain until their normal expiration. Removing a public entry cannot remove copies independently saved by others. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to object to or restrict processing, request portability, or complain to a privacy regulator.
Children’s privacy
We do not ask players for their age or require real names. Parents and guardians should help children avoid entering identifying initials or sharing personal information through support messages. If you believe a child has provided personal information that should be removed, contact us at the address below.
Security and policy changes
The iOS app connects to the online service using HTTPS. We use reasonable safeguards to protect information, but no service can guarantee absolute security. We may update this policy as the service or our practices change. Updates will appear on this page with a revised effective date.
Retro Kicker support
For gameplay help, bug reports, privacy questions, or deletion requests, email [email protected].
For a bug report, include your device model, operating-system version, app version, and a brief description of what happened. A screenshot can help, but avoid including private information.
How to play: Swipe upward inside the right-hand pad. Your swipe angle controls direction and your swipe speed controls power. Account for the wind. One miss ends the run; ten successful kicks unlock overtime.
Leaderboard unavailable? Online rankings and score submission need an internet connection. The bundled iOS game can still be played offline.
